More about my practice

For most of my astrological practice I’ve focused on Hellenistic astrology, a reconstruction of the early astrological tradition as it was practiced in the late Hellenistic period. Over a period of several years, I completed an intensive certification in Hellenistic astrology with Demetra George, one of the foremost scholars & practitioners of the discipline. I’ve also studied lots of psychological and modern astrology that has helped me adapt ancient concepts so that they’re applicable to contemporary life. I love to incorporate myths that underlie and interrelate with the planets, drawing on the concept of archetypes to make these myths more applicable to lived experience. My background as a professor of literature and critical theory, and as a  multidisciplinary artist and writer, helps me to analyze and make concrete sense of complex symbolic patterns. My personal experience being queer, trans non-binary, and disabled has shaped who I am and how I read charts; I want astrology to be liberationist and work to dismantle the racist, ableist, patriarchal, authoritarian nature of capitalist culture, so when it’s appropriate my readings will address the ways that we can care for those parts of ourselves that have been impacted by these violent forces. But don’t worry, we only need to talk about what you’re comfortable with! Finally, it’s worth mentioning that my approach is not only about critical analysis; my devoted meditation & spiritual practices are really the ground for my intuitive connection to the planets and stars, and my heartfelt belief in astrological animism & cosmic sympathy deeply inform my understanding of the core concepts of the discipline and how I approach each individual chart.
